Watch Olivier Higgins’ interview on Télé-Québec.

For more than twenty years, documentary filmmaking and human connection have been at the heart of MÖ FILMS’ creative approach. In the short documentary portrait Olivier Higgins: Cinema as Encounter, produced by Télé-Québec as part of La Fabrique culturelle, Olivier Higgins reflects on the journey that led to the creation of MÖ FILMS and on the central role that human stories play in his work.

The interview revisits the founding adventure of Asiemut, a documentary born from an 8,000-kilometre cycling journey between Mongolia and India undertaken by filmmakers Olivier Higgins and Mélanie Carrier. It also explores the many award-winning documentary films that followed. The portrait highlights a filmmaking approach rooted in listening, humanism, curiosity, and meaningful encounters with others.

The film also looks at the long-standing relationship developed with Mohammed Shofi, narrator of the documentary Wandering: A Rohingya Story. His remarkable life journey later inspired the immersive exhibition Finding refuge, conceived and created by MÖ FILMS and artists Mélanie Carrier, Olivier Higgins, and Karine Giboulo in collaboration with the Musée de la civilisation, and co-produced by MÖ FILMS and the Musée de la civilisation.

Through this interview directed by Nicolas Lachapelle, audiences are invited to discover the values that guide the work of Mélanie Carrier and Olivier Higgins: a desire to better understand the world through the stories of the people who inhabit it.
