Launch of the Immersive Exhibition Finding Refuge<\/em> at the Mus\u00e9e de la civilisation<\/h2>\n

On March 13, 2025, the Mus\u00e9e de la civilisation<\/a> inaugurated a deeply moving and profoundly human exhibition: Finding Refuge<\/em><\/a>, an immersive exhibition inspired by the life of Mohammed Shofi, conceived and produced in collaboration with M\u00d6 FILMS and artists M\u00e9lanie Carrier, Olivier Higgins, and Karine Giboulo.<\/p>\n

Finding Refuge<\/em> offers a sensory and intimate immersion into the lived reality of the Rohingya people. Through an immersive sound journey, visitors are invited to understand the life path of a refugee through his own words and memories.<\/p>\n

This story is that of Mohammed Shofi, who was forced to flee Myanmar with his family before the age of one. His journey \u2014 from childhood in the Kutupalong refugee camp in Bangladesh, the largest refugee camp in the world, to his arrival in Qu\u00e9bec at the age of 18 \u2014 is told with deep sensitivity. Authentic sounds \u2014 his voice, the sounds of the camp, and those of his present-day life \u2014 drawn from the documentary approach of filmmakers M\u00e9lanie Carrier and Olivier Higgins, immerse visitors in a story that is both luminous and deeply unsettling, echoing the experiences of millions of people who have been forced to flee in search of refuge.<\/p>\n

The works of Karine Giboulo translate the density of life within refugee camps and the process of taking root in a new land, awakening Shofi\u2019s memories and inner landscape.<\/p>\n

This exhibition extends the documentary film Errance sans retour<\/em> (Wandering: A Rohingya Story<\/em><\/a>), directed by Olivier Higgins and M\u00e9lanie Carrier, which has already been widely acclaimed on the international stage. With Finding Refuge<\/em>, the cinematic experience is transformed into an immersive museum installation, offering an intimate encounter with the history of a displaced people.<\/p>\n
